Hilary grew up in Berkeley, California where she developed an enduring love for the place where mountains and ocean meet. She began choral singing in high school, sang for a season with the San Francisco Symphony Chorus, and after moving to Minnesota for graduate theological studies, settled for the simple pleasures of singing in a small church choir.
In 1989, she moved to the Philadelphia region and joined the Anna Crusis Women’s Choir—the oldest feminist chorus in the United States. It was there that she met many of the women who would later come to comprise SheWho.
Hilary is an ordained minister of the United Church of Christ and serves as Senior Pastor of Pleasantville United Church of Christ in suburban Philadelphia. She lives in Ambler, Pennsylvania with her husband, Rob. Their son, Sam, has caught the a capella bug. He currently sings with “Out of the Blue”Oxford’s premier all-male a cappella group.
